Mechanical and tribological properties of materials can have a strong dependence on the environmental conditions in which they operate. Developing materials that will be exposed to non-ambient conditions requires characterization techniques capable of measuring properties in environments representative of how they will be applied in the real world.

Hysitron has developed a wide range of in-operando technologies for reliable nanomechanical and nanotribological testing in non-ambient environmental conditions to quantitatively characterize the effects of temperature, humidity, atmospheric gasses, electrochemical reactions, and hydration on properties.
