Composites
Characterization of individual components within composite materials is essential for understanding and predicting end-performance of bulk composite materials. Many components of such composite materials are on size scales in the micro- and nano-ranges, requiring small-scale measurement capability for nanomechanical characterization of individual constituents. Hysitron's instruments offer the nanoscale sensitivity required for such small size scales associated with composite material applications.
Material properties including modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness of composite materials can be quantified at the nanoscale using Hysitron's instruments. This is made possible by using Hysitron's in-situ SPM imaging to identify individual components and test locations before and after testing.
For simultaneous identification and characterization of individual constituents in multi-material or multi-component composite materials, Hysitron's Modulus Mapping option provides a quantitative solution combining in-situ SPM imaging with nanoDMA.
